Chulu West Peak Climbing: Scaling Himalayan Heights and Unveiling Alpine Splendor

As climbers ascend higher, the landscapes transform, revealing stunning alpine scenery and close-up views of towering peaks like Annapurna II, III, and IV, Gangapurna, and others. The trail also takes climbers across challenging mountain passes like Thorong La (5,416 meters / 17,769 feet), adding to the thrill of the journey.

Upon reaching the base camp of Chulu West, climbers undergo comprehensive preparation and acclimatization before embarking on the summit push. The ascent requires technical climbing skills, including the use of ropes, ice axes, and crampons. The reward for this effort is a breath-taking panorama from the summit, showcasing the entire Annapurna Massif and the neighboring Dhaulagiri range.

Though the climb demands physical endurance and mental resilience, the sense of achievement upon conquering Chulu West is immeasurable. After descending back to the base camp and bidding farewell to the stunning mountainscape, trekkers retrace their steps to the trailhead before returning to Kathmandu.

Throughout the journey, climbers are accompanied by experienced guides and support staff who ensure safety, provide guidance, and organize logistics. Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for Chulu West Peak climbing due to stable weather and clear skies.

Trip Information

Chulu East and Chulu West are the two famous peaks for climbing in Annapurna Region. Among the two, Chulu West is the highest one. It is also called Chulu Central. This peak was first ascended in 1952 by a Japanese Expedition Team. It lies to the north of Annapurna above the Manang Valley. The Base Camp for the climb is situated in a small valley to north of Manang, one of the trails to Thorang La. We take a narrow and steep trail to the Base Camp (5300 m.) from Chauri Lather. From the Base Camp, we trek towards the High Camp (5300 m.). It is a matter of fact that there is no technical difficulty involved in reaching the summit; however, the pace can be slowed as the slopes are vulnerable to avalanches in certain areas.
