Tilman Pass Trekking is a Great Himalaya Trails. We drive through ripe, golden-yellow, paddy fields and lush sub-tropical vegetation to the road head at the Tamang village of Chautara.

Tilman Pass Trekking starts with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, from where you drive to Syabrubensi via Dhunche. The drive to Syabrubensi fills with pleasant sceneries of the green forests and the local villages. The trail passes through Lama Hotel to reach the oldest Tamang settlement in the Langtang region, Langtang village. Continuing on the Langtang valley, the trail also reaches the oldest monastery of Langtang in Kyanjin Gompa. You also hike to Tserko-Ri (4984m) for a panoramic view of the Langtang Himal range, Langshisha Ri (6427m), Yala Peak (5500m), and so on.

The trek takes you from the land of enchanting rhododendron forest to yak pastures to the moraines of vast glaciers. We might see varieties of alpine flowers and exotic wild animals  during the trek as the trail goes through Langtang National Park. Crossing Tilman Pass (5320m) can get challenging as the trail is mostly frozen and susceptible to rock falls. After crossing Tilman Pass, the trail reaches the tranquil lakes of Panchpokhari, the 9th highest wetland area in the world. The trek then ends with a walk through the quiet forests until you reach Chautara. Tilman Pass Trek is an ideal trek for adventurers looking to conquer a quiet trail in the foot of the Himalayas.

Tilman Pass walk is also known as the Jugal Panch Pokhari trekking – a set of five small lakes – ensconced in a vast boulder-strewn amphitheatre, where we encamp near the small temple to Vishnu, a place of pilgrimage for local Hindus from the surrounding Helambu region but presently deserted.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuwan International Airport, we will receive you in a private vehicle and transfer you to the hotel in Kathmandu. Our representative will give you information about Tilman pass trekking programs.

After breakfast, you will meet our guide who will take you on a tour of Kathmandu Valley. Our company van will take you to different cultural heritage sites such as Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. You can stop at authentic Nepali restaurants for lunch and dinner. Overnight at a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Have a breakfast at the hotel, drive few minutes to catch up coach for Syapru Besi with your mountain trekking guide and porters. Enjoy seven of our scenic drives through Trishuli bazaar with beautiful small villages, river valleys, and mountains. The bus stops roughly about 30 minutes from Trisuli highway restaurant for lunch. Travelers can reach Syabrubeshi bazaar around 2 or 3 o’clock midday. Stay overnight at Syapru besi camping ground.

You start your walking at your own pace and the trail ascends for around two hours through the forest followed by a climb of about an hour to reach Bamboo village. Furthermore, the trail follows upstream and can be seen as birds’ life around the bushes. Beehives hanging on a cliff are another attraction for the visitors walking. From here you will again steeply climb through the bamboo forest to reach the Lama Hotel.

Today you will have a pleasant walk and follow the trail through rhododendron and pine forest to Ghoda Tabela. The Ghoda Tabela area surrounds a dense wild habitat with many small babblers with a lot of herbals plants available here. Furthermore, walk through a scenic trail that takes you to Langtang village where you will relax for the evening.

Kyanjin Gompa is located at an altitude of 3,830m feet above sea level. Tourists will have a gorgeous mountain view of Mt Ganchempo and Mt. Langtang Lirung. You will visit the surrounding areas like Yak cheese Factory, Kyanjin Monastery, and glacier sightseeing.

Hike to Kyanjin ridge to get a super view of Langtang Himalayan range includes Mt.Langtang lirung, Langtang ri, Langsisa pass, Langtang Himal, Ganjala peak, Yala peak, and many other border peaks. However, if you are interested your guide will take you to climb Tsherko Ri peak at 4,984m to experience better Himalayan sights. Visit Langtang glacier and Langshisha Kharka (the beautiful yak pasture land) through the trekking trails. Return to Kyanjin lodge for a rest overnight.

An exciting day of preparing of our camping crew Langshisa Kharka. As you are walking on yak pastures and lonely routes, the trek of totally off the beaten path and non-tourist area. Stay overnight at the tented camp.

Hike at the high alpine vegetation and pure nature trail. We walk the Moraine Camp at 4650 meters altitude which is perhaps the day’s highest point. The high pass loop is the scenic highlight of a loop trip in Langtang Glacier Peak. Visitors can spend most of their spare time rambling and climbing after the pass next to the campsite for better altitude adaptation. Moreover, it takes 6-hour hikes depending upon the speed you make in the Himalayas. Stay overnight at Tent campsite.

Today, hike through the little giant pass is a tough trek difficulty. But it is the most scenic high pass trek in Nepal that everyone crosses without AMS difficulty. Comparing other strenuous trip trail, the Tilman pass is an easier, but exciting trip. It’s also the little giant high pass loop hiking in the Himalayas. The trail leads to Tilman Base Camp via Tilman pass height of 5,308 meters. Mostly the high pass trail goes steeply up through the rocky moraine and descends to another side for an overnight stay at a tent.

We begin the alpine journey for today to destination Tin pokhari (three sacred lakes) which is the major attractions of Tilman pass hiking route. It’s an alpine trail or a climbing route through difficult terrain in high mountains. Stay overnight at a tent campsite.

 

After breakfast, we start today a trip to tranquil Lake Panch Pokhari which is situated at 4070m elevation. The Himalayan scenery of pristine landscapes and mountains view is just wonderful. Stay overnight at Panch pokhari camp.

On this day, you explore the Five Lakes and the surrounding valley. You can wake up early in the morning to see the beautiful sunrise. From uphill, you get a fantastic view of Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and Jugal Himal range. Several species of birds and sweet smelling flowers can be found on the nearby hills. Panchpokhari is also a sheltered pilgrimage site where the Janai Purnima festival is held in August. Numerous Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visit this site each year. The pilgrims also visit the shrine of Lord Shiva situated nearby the lake. Overnight at tented camp in Panchpokhari.

Early in the morning, you leave Panch Pokhari and head towards Nasimpati. It will be a moderate walk and a gradual descent through the rocky hills. Passing through the alpine vegetation and exploring the wildlife, you make your way to Nasimpati. Overnight at tented camp in Nasimpati.

We enjoy the gradual ascent through rocky hills and rhododendron forest. Take it easy on the steep downhill section on the final day. From our campsite, you can enjoy the stunning mountain views, or if you like to explore, you can gain some insights into the culture and daily life. Dhap is home to Tamang families and it gives us a great chance to gain some insight into the lives, culture, and traditional architecture of Tamang villages. Stay overnight at camp.

 

We descend through terraced fields along the Indrawati River, complimentary the scenic villages scattered across the Melamchi track. Melamchi Pul Bazaar lies on the banks of the Melamchi River and the Indrawati River. It is a relatively large town compared to those that we have passed already.

There are some basic to luxurious hotels in a Melamchi Bazaar. Furthermore, there are also tea shops, government offices, schools, colleges, a post office, and an army camp. Sadly some of them collapsed by the huge flood disaster in monsoon 2021. If you’re feeling brave, take a cold bath or swim in the river and get back on four wheels and enjoy the scenic drive back to Kathmandu. After a long road dive, we will have a super delicious farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight in a hotel.
