Guinness record for Nepali woman mountaineer
In a historic achievement, a group of Nepalese women mountaineers has also made headlines by setting a new Guiness World Record for the most number of Everest summits by women climbers. This remarkable feat showcases their exceptional skills, determination, and contribution to mountaineering.
Led by the renowned climber and expedition leader, Shailee Basnet, the team of Nepalese women successfully scaled Mount Everest multiple times, each ascent adding to their record-breaking tally. The group included experienced climbers such as Nimdoma Sherpa, Pema Diki Sherpa, Maya Sherpa, and Dawa Futi Sherpa, among others, who have demonstrated exceptional prowess in conquering the world’s highest peak.
The journey towards this extraordinary accomplishment was filled with challenges and triumphs. The climbers underwent rigorous training and preparation to tackle the demanding conditions of Everest, including extreme weather, high altitude, and technical terrain. Their ascent was not only a physical test but also a testament to their courage and resilience.
It is one of the great news for us that our Nepali woman Mountaineer Chhurim sherpa has entered the record book by Climbing of Mt. Everest ( Sagarmatha) twice in the same season.
According to Guiness World Record, she is the first woman to climb the world’s highest mountain twice in the same season.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati handed over the Guinness World Records certificate to the 29-year-old mountaineer amid a program held in Kathmandu on February 25.
Chhurim, who hails from Solukhumbu, had reached the 8,848-meter summit on May 12, 2012 and again on May 19, 2012.
More than 4,000 mountaineers have reached the summit of Mt Everest since Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and New Zealander Edmund Hillary reached the summit in 1953. But only a few of them are women.
