The Annapurna South Expedition 7219 meters is an attractive mountain that is located north of Pokhara, in the heart of Annapurna Himalayan Ranges. Annapurna South rises miraculously as a part of a wide ridge. Which forms an amazing wall including Annapurna I 8091m, Annapurna II 7937m, Annapurna III 7555m, Annapurna IV 7525m and Gangapurna 7455m. The holy mountain Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail) 6997m is also an important peak that lies within the Annapurna Himalayan Range. Annapurna South Expedition is the technical mountain has ice steep climbing with 60% successful summit ratio.
The Japanese Expedition team has first ascended the summit of Annapurna South in 1964 via North Ridge. The climb of Annapurna South is considered difficult and technically challenging with steep sections on the summit ridge as well as traversing of steep and slippery slopes below the summit. Hence, previous experience of technical peak climbing with a good level of physical fitness is highly recommended for those wanting to conquer the summit of Annapurna South. Itinerary
Our representative from Everest Expeditions Nepal will meet you at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be greeted and then transferred to the hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city. Our staff will help you until the check-in procedure ends at Hotel. You can either have a rest at the Hotel or visit EEN office for gathering additional information about the trip. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Everest Expeditions Nepal.

Today we will spend most of our day sightseeing around some of the world heritage sites of UNESCO inside Kathmandu valley. Most importantly we will complete all the necessary paper works and make other preparations required for Annapurna South Expedition with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition.
Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for day sightseeing.

5-6 hrs Drive Hotel/Resort
After breakfast, we will take a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara that takes about five to six hours of drive journey. Our drive goes along the scenic zigzag hilly roads. Pokhara is a beautiful town set on the banks of the Fewa Lake. It is tourist’s paradise full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with mountains. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu. You will be transferred to the hotel at Pokhara.

1.5 hrs Drive & 3-4 hrs Trek Lodge
Today we will take another short drive of about one and half hour towards Nayapul – the starting point of our trek. From Nayapul we start our trek on the trail that goes through rhododendron and oaks filled forest towards Ghandruk – a Gurung community village. At Ghandruk we can visit the Gurung museum which has been well preserved and is probably the main point of attraction after the scenic view of the surrounding mountains. We will spend our overnight at Ghandruk.

5-6 hrs Trek Lodge
After breakfast, we leave Ghandruk and follow the fastest and popular trail via Kot Danda and Kimrong. A steady climb for some time will lead us to Taulung, from where we ascend a long and steep stone staircase to reach Chhomrong. Chhomrung is a Gurung Village, and the highest permanent settlement in the valley with a tremendously vast view across to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. Our day ends with an overnight stay in Chhomrung.

From Chhomrung we will follow the trail that descends down to cross a suspension bridge over Chhomrung Khola (river). After crossing the bridge our trail climbs gradually through beautiful rhododendron forests and heads up towards Sinuwa. From Sinuwa, we will follow the slightly rising trail that passes through oak and rhododendron forest interspersed with large stands of Bamboo. Along the route, we can get the glimpses of Langur Monkeys jumping from one tree to another. We trek until we arrive at Bamboo, where there are few tea houses.

4-5 hrs Trek Lodge
After breakfast, we leave Bamboo and follow the trail that is almost covered with many tree roots. Our trail goes steeply down along the bank of rocks and then levels out. From there we continue our trek on the trail that winds steeply up through deep bamboo and rhododendron forest to the village of Doban. From Doban the forest becomes more impressive with large rhododendrons covered in Spanish moss and pockets of orchids. In about an hour we will arrive at the Himalayan Hotel.

Leaving Himalaya Hotel, our trail climbs through dense forest to a large rock overhanging – known as Hinku Cave. Our trek continues as we follow the slightly rising trail towards Deurali. Soon the valley broadens and fine birch forest fills the far banks. Two obvious rock pillars mark the ‘gateway’ to the Sanctuary, which suddenly opens out to broad grassy slopes and a series of teahouses at Machhapuchre Base Camp. Many trekkers begin to feel the effects of altitude at MBC, so it is a good idea to initially rest and enjoy views of Machhapuchre, Gangapurna and Annapurna South.

After breakfast at MBC, we will follow the trail that climbs an ancient moraine covered by grass to the west of MBC. There are many trails that wind gradually up towards Annapurna South Base Camp. As we climb towards the base camp, we start to get a better perspective of the Sanctuary while enjoying the superb view of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli, Machhapuchre and other surrounding snow-capped high peaks. Our Sherpa crew will make start necessary preparations for setting up additional camps in higher altitudes in order to reach the summit of Annapurna South.

19 days climbing towards Annapurna South Tented Camp
We will spend several days doing climbing training practices with adequate time for acclimatization. Our Sherpa crew will do all the hard works from carrying and setting up camps at higher altitudes, provide healthy and hygienic meals, fixing and finding appropriate climbing routes to the summit. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the climbing gears we will follow the guidance and footsteps of our experienced climbing experts. Tackling several technical climbing sections and taking weather conditions into consideration we head towards the summit of Annapurna South. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with breathtaking views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail), Hiun Chuli and other snow-capped high peaks. We will spend short quality time at the summit and descend following the same route back to the base camp.

After successfully achieving the summit of Annapurna South, we pack our gears and prepare for the return trek. Today we leave the base camp and retrace our steps on the same trail that descends through Machhapuchre Base Camp. We continue our trek as we leave the alpine vegetation and enter the sub-tropical vegetation dropping down through Deurali and then trek for some time to reach Himalayan Hotel for the overnight stay.

From Himalayan Hotel, our trek continues with a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking that heads back towards Doban. Our trail from there goes through the dense forest passing through the few tea houses of Bamboo and then towards Sinuwa. From there we will descend steeply to cross a bridge over Chhomrung Khola. We cross the suspension bridge and start climbing a long stoned staircase to arrive at Chhomrung for our overnight stay.

After breakfast, we will leave Chhomrung and follow the trail that descends gradually passing through dense forest and along with rich natural resources. During our trek, we might spot Langur Monkeys and other species of rare wild animals and birds. Our trek continues until we arrive at Syauli Bazaar for our overnight stay. We will embrace the region’s natural beauty while we are still here.

2-3 hrs Trek & 2-3 hrs Drive Hotel/Resort
The last day of our trek starts from Syauli Bazaar as we follow a rather easy trail that heads through a densely forested area and beautifully terraced farmlands towards Nayapul. From Nayapul we will load our bag packs in the vehicle and enjoy a relaxing ride all the way back to Pokhara. You will be transferred to the hotel once we arrive at Pokhara. You can either have rest at the hotel or explore the beautiful city of Pokhara in the evening.

After breakfast, we leave Pokhara and take a drive back to Kathmandu. It takes approximately four to five hours drive to reach Kathmandu from Pokhara. We will drive along Prithvi Highway which offers scenic hilly zigzag roads through the banks of Trishuli River. During our drive journey, we will have the opportunity to observe the daily survival activities of local people while we drive passing through roadside market towns and picturesque villages.

You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. You can pay a visit to attraction destination (world heritage sites of UNESCO) sites that weren’t possible on the second day of the trip. Also, walking around the shopping streets of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will celebrate the successful completion of the Annapurna South Expedition and have a final meal together in the evening.

Trip Information
Annapurna South (also called as Annapurna Dakshin in Nepali) was first climbed by Japanese expedition team in 1964 ad. They used the North face ridge. Later it was attempted also by Italian team in 1988. The base camp of this mountain is situated at 4300m at Annapurna sanctuary which is North East route of ascent. The advance base camp lies on west bank of glacier between Mt. Hiunchuli and this mountain. Camp 1 is situated at 5000 meter, camp 2 is also fixed at 5970m likewise camp 3 on 6400m. From camp 3, summit is made.
To climb Annapurna South, we follow the famous Annapurna Sanctuary or Annapurna Base camp trek route. The trail is full of tranquility and spectacular highland experience.
